Position Summary:
The Boat Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of watercraft including inboard, outboard, and sterndrive engines, electrical systems, hull components, and onboard accessories. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to ensure customer satisfaction and safe boating experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on boats, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct winterization and de-winterization procedures.
- Install and troubleshoot marine electronics, navigation systems, and audio equipment.
- Inspect and repair hulls, propellers, steering systems, and fuel systems.
- Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with service advisors and customers regarding diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with boat launching, hauling, and storage as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to marina policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine service or related mechanical field.
- Certification from ABYC, NMMA, or manufacturer training programs is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of marine engines (Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, etc.).
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license: boating license or experience operating watercraft preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor and indoor marina setting.
- Exposure to water, weather elements, and mechanical equipment.
- May require weekend or holiday hours during peak season.
