Position Summary:
The Boat Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of watercraft including inboard, outboard, and sterndrive engines, electrical systems, hull components, and onboard accessories. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to ensure customer satisfaction and safe boating experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on boats, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct winterization and de-winterization procedures.
  • Install and troubleshoot marine electronics, navigation systems, and audio equipment.
  • Inspect and repair hulls, propellers, steering systems, and fuel systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors and customers regarding diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist with boat launching, hauling, and storage as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to marina policies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine service or related mechanical field.
  • Certification from ABYC, NMMA, or manufacturer training programs is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of marine engines (Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, etc.).
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver’s license: boating license or experience operating watercraft preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor and indoor marina setting.
  • Exposure to water, weather elements, and mechanical equipment.
  • May require weekend or holiday hours during peak season.

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour
