Position Overview
Xcel Energy is seeking an Engineering Project Coordinator to support natural gas distribution and infrastructure renewal projects. This role provides engineering and administrative support to project management and construction teams, ensuring project documentation, drawings, and procedures are accurate and properly maintained.
This is a long-term opportunity supporting a well-established program that has been active for over 10 years and is funded for at least five more years, with potential for extension and internal career mobility within Gas Operations.
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
Support natural gas distribution infrastructure renewal projects
Create, modify, and manage engineering drawings using AutoCAD
Prepare and maintain project documentation packages and procedures
Pull and organize project files and create structured project documents
Coordinate with Project Managers and construction crews
Serve as a point of contact for third-party mechanical contractors, addressing questions and concerns
Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with internal processes
Typical Day
Pulling project information and developing project documentation
Updating or creating AutoCAD drawings
Coordinating with project managers and construction teams
Responding to contractor inquiries
Completing administrative documentation tied to engineering packages
Team & Work Environment
Supports a Project Manager and construction crew
Interacts with internal stakeholders and external contractors

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (4-year degree required)
Strong organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
CAD experience (AutoCAD preferred)
Technical writing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
AutoCAD experience in utility or infrastructure environments
Experience with engineering fluids, manufacturing, or welding
Exposure to construction or mechanical contractor coordination
