Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Control Engineer to lead and implement a comprehensive Quality Assurance and Quality Control program across multiple generating plant types, including Coal, Gas, and Renewables facilities within the Colorado region. In this critical role, you will serve as the primary guardian of construction quality, ensuring that all project work adheres to established quality standards, safety requirements, applicable codes, environmental regulations, and customer expectations. You will work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, reliability, and contractor teams to drive continuous improvement and deliver successful project outcomes from planning through execution.
Responsibilities
Design, review, and implement inspection and testing procedures for materials and onsite services in accordance with company policies and procedures
Monitor project construction activities to identify defects, deviations, and non-conformities, and implement corrective solutions in a timely manner
Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams, reliability engineers, and contractors to improve installation quality and uphold established standards
Develop and maintain quality management systems and conduct internal and external audits to ensure ongoing compliance
Review and develop Quality Control plans used during project sourcing, planning, and execution phases in alignment with company policies
Train employees on quality control procedures, standards, and best practices to build organizational quality competency
Coordinate and perform shop visits for critical inspections, hold points, and factory acceptance testing of key equipment and materials
Monitor the quality of products and control the efficiency of processes throughout the project lifecycle
Investigate root causes of failures and facilitate root cause analyses to recommend and implement sustainable improvements
Skills
Strong knowledge of quality assurance and quality control methodologies, standards, and best practices
Proficiency in developing and implementing inspection and testing procedures for construction and manufacturing environments
Experience conducting root cause analysis and applying corrective and preventive action frameworks
Ability to develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems in compliance with industry standards
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external contractors
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
Ability to plan and conduct audits, both internal and external, with thoroughness and objectivity
Knowledge of safety requirements, environmental regulations, and applicable construction codes within the energy sector
Effective training and mentoring skills to elevate quality awareness across project teams
Experience
Proven experience in a quality control or quality assurance engineering role within the energy, power generation, or heavy industrial sector
Hands-on experience with construction quality monitoring across multiple facility or plant types
Experience performing or coordinating factory acceptance testing and critical equipment inspections
Demonstrated experience developing Quality Control plans for large-scale capital projects
Prior experience working with contractors and third-party vendors in a regulated utility or energy environment preferred
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical discipline
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent quality certification preferred
Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other relevant quality management system standards
Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, NFPA, or other applicable industry codes and standards
