Job Title: Interim Accounting Consultant – Financial Controls & Reconciliation Review
Contract Duration: Short-Term Engagement (60–90 Days)
Location: Onsite – North Chesterfield, VA
Engagement Overview
Our organization is seeking an experienced interim accounting consultant to perform a comprehensive review of general ledger reconciliation processes. This engagement will focus on assessing current reconciliation practices, evaluating effectiveness, and identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy, consistency, and internal financial controls.
The consultant will provide observational insights, highlight operational risks, and deliver practical recommendations to strengthen accounting procedures and reporting integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed reviews of balance sheet account reconciliations to assess accuracy, completeness, and adherence to internal accounting guidelines
- Analyze reconciling items, variances, and unusual activity, coordinating with accounting personnel as needed for clarification or resolution
- Assess adequacy of supporting documentation and its readiness for audit purposes
- Identify process gaps, inconsistencies, and control weaknesses across reconciliation activities
- Document observations and develop clear, structured recommendations for process improvement
- Highlight trends, patterns, and potential risk exposure across accounts and workflows
- Collaborate with finance leadership to review findings and support transition of improvements to internal teams
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA certification required
- Strong background in general ledger reconciliations, review processes, and financial controls
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and investigative skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to clearly document findings and recommendations
- Self-directed and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Salary : $60 - $75
