What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Entity Controller position at Madison-Davis, LLC?
Legal Entity Controller
Hybrid – Jersey City, NJ & Midtown Manhattan
Investment Bank | Product Control / Controllers Group
About the Role
We’re seeking a Legal Entity Controller to join a dynamic and growing controllers team supporting a newly established broker-dealer entity. This is a hands-on role bridging Product Control, Accounting Policy, and SEC Reporting — ideal for a VP-level finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
You’ll oversee legal entity accounting, ensuring accuracy and completeness of ledgers, performing analytical reviews, and supporting financial disclosure processes (10-K/10-Q). The position offers significant visibility across fixed income, equities, treasury, and asset management businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee legal entity accounting and general ledger control, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Support month-end close and coordinate with Product Control and SEC Reporting teams.
- Perform detailed analytical reviews and variance analyses across multiple business lines.
- Act as a liaison to auditors and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with GAAP and policy standards.
- Partner with Technology and Reporting teams to automate and streamline workflows.
- Contribute to financial statement preparation and related disclosures.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- VP-level professional with 8 years in financial services (investment banking, broker-dealer, or similar).
- Proven background in legal entity control, financial reporting, or audit liaison within a bank.
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and collaborative; able to work across accounting, reporting, and product control functions.
- Big 4 audit experience helpful, but not required — industry experience takes priority.
- CPA preferred but not required.
(Please note: this is not a Product Controller or pure SEC Reporting role.)
Team & Structure
- Newly formed team (established ~18 months ago); this will be the 4th hire.
- Supports a new broker-dealer entity focused on financial statements, not regulatory capital.
- Initially individual contributor, with opportunity for leadership growth as the team expands.
Location & Hybrid Schedule
- 3 days in office required (minimum 2):
- Tues/Thurs – Jersey City (Product Control)
- Wed – Midtown (Accounting Policy & Reporting)
- Must be able to work in both locations weekly.
Salary : $150,000 - $170,000
