Overview
A global, mid-to-large tier investment banking platform is building out its U.S. accounting policy function and is hiring a Technical Accounting Advisor to sit in New York. This individual will operate as a key resource to both Finance leadership and front office teams, advising on complex deal-related accounting treatment and firmwide policy application. The role has direct visibility to senior leadership within the Chief Accounting Office and broader controllership organization, and will play a critical role in shaping accounting policy interpretation, governance, and execution as the firm continues to scale.
This is a highly consultative, high-impact position suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced capital markets environment and can translate technical accounting guidance into practical business decisions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the go-to subject matter expert on technical accounting matters across multiple business lines
- Research and interpret U.S. GAAP guidance across areas such as revenue recognition, financial instruments, consolidations, securitizations, and equity method investments
- Draft and present detailed accounting position papers and memos supporting conclusions on complex transactions
- Partner closely with front office, controllership, treasury, and risk teams to advise on accounting implications of new deals and business initiatives
- Support the rollout and adoption of new accounting standards, including impact assessments and implementation strategy
- Contribute to financial reporting deliverables, including preparation of select disclosures and footnotes (e.g., VIEs and structured entities)
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and assess potential implications to the firm’s reporting framework
- Participate in internal control initiatives, governance forums, and policy committees representing the accounting function
- Liaise with internal and external auditors to support technical accounting conclusions and regulatory compliance
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in technical accounting, accounting policy, or advisory (public accounting or financial services strongly preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with the ability to interpret and apply guidance to complex scenarios
- Experience within capital markets, banking, or a similarly complex financial services environment is highly preferred
- Proven ability to communicate technical accounting concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Hands-on experience preparing accounting memos and supporting audit processes
- Solid understanding of financial statements, including disclosures and footnote reporting
- CPA required
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to balance technical precision and practical business considerations
- Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment
Salary : $165,000 - $180,000
