Job Description:  To provide direct services and support to students and their teachers, counselors, school administrators, and related service providers in implementing research-based applied behavior analysis principles and to assist in the implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

 

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, or other related fields.
  2. Certification/License as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), required.
  3. Possess appropriate experience (at least three years) working with children with disabilities, or psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders, preferably in an educational setting.

Physical Requirements:  Requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

Reports To: Director of Special Education

 

 

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrates a clear understanding of the individual education process and due process for students with disabilities.
  2. Knowledge of district and special education procedures and the Alabama Administrative Code.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts, and skills in the field of applied behavior analysis.
  4. Ability to create interest through the use of materials, techniques, and methods appropriate to the varying abilities and backgrounds of individual students.
  5. Good organizational skills and cooperative planning.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Possesses the physical and emotional stability to fulfill the contract period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works directly with students, families, and educators to achieve academic, social and emotional goals by observing students within the educational environment, performing behavioral assessments, collecting and analyzing data, developing interventions and establishing behavior management plans based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.
  2. Monitors district procedures to assure compliance with governmental regulations, codes, restrictions, and reporting requirements concerning writing IEPs, gathering data, appropriate instruction, functional behavior assessment, behavioral intervention plans and emergencies for the purpose of ensuring compliance for all district, state, and federal requirements.
  3. Processes referrals and responds to referrals of students for varied eligibilities and behavior intervention services for the purpose of ensuring compliance for all district, state, and federal requirements.
  4. Conducts or assists in conducting FBAs and collaborates with school staff in the development of BIPs for the purpose of reducing inappropriate student behaviors and increasing student performance.
  5. Assists in coordinating staff professional development activities for the purpose of ensuring program effectiveness and progress toward stated goals.
  6. Participates in Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings as a consultant and for the purpose of developing and monitoring BIPs.
  7. Prepares a variety of professionally written documents and reports in a timely manner for the purpose of legal compliance.
  8. Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work assigned can be met.
  9. Attends meetings and collaborates with IEP Team members for the purpose of evaluating, recommending, and implementing appropriate IEP goals, services, accommodations, and/or modifications for students.
  10. Participates in the development of ongoing relationships with other agencies serving students with disabilities for the purpose of improving student outcomes and ensuring compliance for all district, state, and federal requirements.
  11. Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and their reintegration into the classroom.
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.    

Terms of Employment:  202 Days.  Salary as recommended by the Salary Schedule and approved by the Board.

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

 

Salary Range: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
