What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Carpenter position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The Carpenter is responsible for performing both rough and finished carpentry for Macon-Bibb County. The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Number of years of experience is based on the level of Carpentry desired:
Carpenter III: Four (4) to six (6) years of experience or three (3) years of experience and the completion of Carpenter II training requirements;
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Performs carpentry in new buildings, tears down and rebuilds partitions in old buildings, lays new floors, and finishes work as needed.
- Maintains repairs, alters, and remodels buildings or related structures to meet the needs of the occupant.
- Repairs and/or installs doors, locks, window frames, tables, chairs, furniture, roofs, handrails and other related parts of a building.
- Builds tables, cabinets, shelves, and desks from rough sketches and blueprints.
- Does drywall work, frame, hang and finish when necessary.
- Performs bench carpentry work in a shop/area equipped with power tools.
- Checks condition of tools and equipment; keep them neat and in working conditions.
- Keeps inventory of supplies and advises manager when needed.
- Oversees work of unskilled employees during job assignments as required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Must be available for emergency calls as needed.
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the trade and in related building trades.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to the trade.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to climb ladders or scaffold to the required heights to perform the assign duties.
- Ability to stand and walk comfortably for long periods of time.
- Basic working knowledge of personal computers and the ability to use word processing and database programs to keep simple records, as required.
- Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment necessary in various carpentry work and repair tasks.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
- Ability to read blue prints, schematics, and drawings
