Job Function
Provide Direction and Supervision of Facilities Technician’s assigned to grounds maintenance. Coordinate, schedule and oversee snow and ice removal operations. Performs various maintenance and operational duties related to the care and upkeep of all college owned or leased properties, grounds, athletic fields, parking lots, walks, landscaping, etc.
Job Responsibilities
- Utilizes the Colleges electronic work order system (Team Dynamix) to receive and assign work requests, for tasks to be performed under his/her responsibility.
- Inspect assigned work to ensure quality workmanship, and timely completion of tasks and projects to be performed.
- Perform tasks as “working foreperson” and participate as required to complete responsibilities within area of specific skills
- Assigns daily work assignments to personnel assigned to grounds maintenance including horticultural & irrigation specialist to ensure proper and timely care of the college’s grounds is carried out
- Act as on-site safety supervisor and ensure work is performed in accordance with college safety policies and protocols.
- Utilizing Team Dynamix, follow up with end user and facilities areas to report the stats of all work requests pertaining to area of responsibility
- Makes plans and recommendations for landscaping improvement projects
- Maintain campus streets, walks and parking lots by cold patching holes, sealing joints and laying out and painting markings
- Following established policies and procedures orders supplies, materials, and tools needed to carry out grounds, landscaping, and snow/ice removal projects and duties as required and directed
- Trains and instructs college employees in the safe use and care of grounds and landscaping equipment including Snowplows, Lawn Mowers, Frontend loaders etc. utilized by the College
- Oversee and assist in the planting and routine care of trees, shrubs, lawn coverings and other campus horticultural items in an assigned area using tools and equipment as required.
- Oversee and assist in the laying out and maintenance of flower beds, ornamental shrubbery, and lawns
- Inspect college grounds for evidence of disease, insects and pests, taking appropriate corrective action
- Provide leadership, direction and coordination for the removal of snow and ice from college parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, etc.
- Routinely tour college grounds and parking lots ensure they are free of debris and litter
- Responsible for the maintenance and preparation activities of athletic fields as scheduled by college user department
- Operates a variety of powered equipment, including Chainsaws, String Trimmers, Edger’s, Blowers etc.
- Operates College vehicles and equipment including Frontend loaders, Broom Tractors, Backhoes, Riding Lawnmowers, Plow trucks, etc.
- Oversee and assist in the operation, adjustment, care and cleaning of hand and power tools and equipment
- Install and maintain exterior traffic and pedestrian signs as needed and directed
- Erect street and pedestrian barricades as needed and directed
- Following established policies and procedures order supplies and materials as needed to carry out assigned tasks
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Education
Associate’s degree Required. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license. May be required to obtain CDL
Qualifications
Five years’ experience working in landscaping or grounds maintenance. Demonstrated experience in a leadership and supervisory role. Experience working with outside contractors is preferred.
Salary : $56,836 - $76,934
