Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to lead short-, medium-, and long-term planning activities for a large-scale open pit mining operation in Nevada. This role is critical to optimizing mine performance, ensuring efficient resource extraction, and aligning operational plans with strategic business objectives. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, practical field knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain short-term (daily/weekly), medium-term (monthly/quarterly), and long-term (life-of-mine) plans for an open pit operation.
- Design and optimize pit phases, pushbacks, haul road layouts, and dump locations.
- Generate and update production schedules to meet tonnage and grade targets.
- Conduct pit optimization, mine design, and sequencing using industry-standard software.
- Collaborate closely with geology, operations, processing, and environmental teams to ensure alignment of mine plans.
- Monitor actual production versus plan and adjust schedules to improve performance and efficiency.
- Perform reconciliation analysis and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders and management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in open pit mining, with a strong focus on mine planning.
- Proficiency in mine planning and design software (e.g., Vulcan, MineSight, Surpac, Whittle, Deswik, or similar).
- Solid understanding of drill & blast, loading & hauling operations, and mine economics.
- Experience with resource modeling and reserve estimation is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
