What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Manager position at Mackinnon Bruce International?
Engineering Manager – Automation Systems (Onsite | Orlando FL)
We’re partnering with a growing engineering-driven organisation looking for an Engineering Manager who can lead, build, and elevate a multidisciplinary engineering function. This is a hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to shape processes, drive accountability, and improve how engineering teams design and deliver complex automation systems.
About the Role
This role goes beyond traditional management. The successful candidate will combine technical depth with leadership capability to oversee end-to-end machine and system design across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
You’ll play a key role in:
- Leading and developing a cross-functional engineering team
- Driving structure, processes, and accountability within the engineering function
- Overseeing full system architecture for integrated automation solutions
- Supporting continuous improvement in engineering execution and delivery
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering efforts across mechanical, electrical, and controls teams
- Oversee design and integration of fully automated systems
- Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, and workflows
- Ensure alignment and collaboration across disciplines throughout project lifecycles
- Provide technical guidance on motion control, PLC/HMI platforms, vision systems, and system integration
- Support team development, mentoring, and performance management
- Drive consistency in documentation, design reviews, and delivery practices
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in vertically integrated automation environments where engineering owns full machine/system design
- Background in OEMs, machine builders, or systems integrators is highly desirable
- Strong hands-on experience across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls)
- Proven ability to operate in less structured environments and implement effective engineering processes
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, and industrial automation technologies
- A “player-coach” mindset with both technical credibility and leadership capability
Why This Role?
- Opportunity to build and shape engineering practices and standards
- Broad technical ownership across complete systems, not siloed work
- Direct impact on how engineering is structured and executed
- Leadership role with visibility across the organisation
If you're interested in a role where you can combine technical leadership with the opportunity to build and improve an engineering function from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.
