What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Applications Engineer – Machine Logic & Integration position at Machine Tool Research, Inc.?
Make machines run. Troubleshoot real equipment. Own how CNC machines behave—not just how they’re designed.
If you’ve worked with ladder logic, machine sequencing, or CNC controls, this is where that experience comes to life.
Are You…
- An engineer who enjoys making machines run—not just writing code at a desk?
- Experienced with machine logic, sequencing, motion control, and ladder logic?
- The type of person who likes being on the floor during testing, debugging, and startup?
- Comfortable working across electrical, mechanical, and controls to solve problems?
- The person others rely on when a machine isn’t behaving the way it should?
If you’ve helped bring machines to life, we want to talk to you.
Due to the nature of our work with government-regulated technologies, this position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, modify, and implement machine logic, sequencing, and control behavior
- Configure and support CNC systems and/or ladder logic-based controls
- Configure motion systems including servo drives and multi-axis equipment
- Test, debug, and troubleshoot machines during integration and build
- Work closely with electrical and mechanical teams to bring systems together
- Support machine startup, testing, and final acceptance
- Travel to customer sites for commissioning and support
This is a hands-on role, focused on machine behavior, logic, and integration — you’ll be involved from programming through machine startup.
What You Bring
- 5 years of experience with machine control logic (CNC ladder logic or similar)
- Hands-on experience with machine integration, startup, testing, debugging, and commissioning
- Experience working with motion systems (servo motors, drives, multi-axis systems)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills on real equipment
- Ability to work across disciplines (electrical, mechanical, controls)
- A practical, hands-on mindset and willingness to work on the shop floor
- Experience with custom machines or low-volume, high-complexity equipment
What’s in it for You?
- Employee Ownership (ESOP) – Your work contributes directly to shared success
- Hands-On Engineering – Be directly involved in making machines run
- Variety of Work – Every project is different
- Real Impact – Solve complex problems in real time
- Collaborative Environment – Work alongside experienced builders, engineers, and technicians
