Key Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls and provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill
and injured patients at the scene.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine appropriate treatment plans
and interventions.
- Administer basic emergency medical care including CPR, oxygen therapy, and the
use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Support patient medication administration as per medical protocols, including
assisting with medications like nitroglycerin, albuterol, and epinephrine.
- Monitor and document patient conditions and their responses to treatment, ensuring
all records are detailed and accurate.
- Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities while ensuring ongoing patient care
and comfort.
- Maintain medical and communication equipment, as well as ensure readiness of the
emergency vehicle.
- Collaborate with advanced medical personnel for escalated patient care needs.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Current Tx EMT-B certification
- High school diploma or equivalent. Postsecondary education in emergency medical
services is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and protocols.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
This role requires significant physical demands. Candidates must be capable of lifting,
carrying, and balancing up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance) and possess the stamina
to work long hours in challenging environments.
Working Conditions
EMT-Bs work in a variety of settings, including urban and rural environments. The
position may require irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Exposure
to varying weather conditions and potential hazards present at emergency scenes is
common.
