Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential. LI is seeking to hire a full time Wellness Instructor/PE Teacher for the 2026/2027 school year beginning in mid-August 2026.
Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of the Health and Wellness Instructor to:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and teaching strategies that promote physical and mental wellness, and align with national and state health and wellness standards.
- Provide students with opportunities to learn about and practice a range of health-related skills, including stress management, healthy eating, personal fitness, lifetime activities, and mindfulness techniques.
- Use a variety of teaching techniques and resources, such as group discussions, role-playing, simulations, and technology to engage students and make learning purposeful and interactive.
- Assess student learning and progress through a variety of methods and provide constructive feedback and support to help students meet their wellness goals.
- Create, coordinate, and monitor independent study plans
- Exhibit enthusiasm for the topics taught
- Collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administrators
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Be an engaged member of the Lyndon Institute community, showing support and involvement in student activities outside of the classroom including LI’s residential program
- Model behavior that reflects Lyndon Institute’s Mission and Vision Statements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in health education, physical education, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience teaching high school health and wellness courses.
- Strong knowledge of mental and physical health, wellness concepts, and best practices, with the ability to translate this knowledge into engaging and effective lesson plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- A commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and school community.
Salary : $36,865 - $61,206
