Transportation Engineer (Highway, Traffic, or Bridge)

A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering firm is seeking a Transportation Engineer with experience in highway, traffic, and/or bridge engineering to support and lead transportation infrastructure projects from planning through construction. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful public and private projects while collaborating with a talented team of engineers and technical professionals.
- Perform and/or supervise transportation engineering field and office work, including coordination with engineers, technicians, administrative staff, and subcontractors in a multidisciplinary environment
- Plan, design, and manage transportation projects, including highways, local roadways, traffic systems, and/or bridge-related infrastructure
- Prepare, review, and manage technical studies, engineering reports, contract documents, and construction plans
- Develop project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, and budgets for active projects and new proposals
- Track project progress to ensure schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met
- Apply current design standards, specifications, and permitting requirements to transportation projects
- Research and implement new or improved engineering techniques, materials, and processes
- Attend and present at client meetings, public meetings, project interviews, and community outreach sessions
- Present projects to state and local agencies, including DOTs, planning boards, and other permitting authorities
- Support business development efforts and proposal preparation
- Represent the firm within professional organizations, public forums, and community events
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior-level staff
- Perform other related duties as required
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program; Master's degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience in highway, traffic, and/or bridge design
- Strong knowledge of applicable transportation design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, state DOT criteria)
- Familiarity with permitting processes and agency coordination
- Experience with construction practices, site visits, and field coordination
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; traffic or bridge design software experience a plus
- LEED Accreditation or sustainability-related experience preferred
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated professional with a collaborative, client-focused approach
- Active involvement in professional or community organizations preferred
