Job Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support ongoing business growth at our Avon, CT location. This role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing manufacturing control systems, updating programming to support new products and procedures, and contributing to development projects requiring new controls systems and integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support existing manufacturing control systems and automation platforms, including PLCs, SCADA, and MES interfaces
- Improve process efficiency, uptime, and traceability by enhancing control systems using modern platforms like Ignition and programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Participate in cross-functional development projects involving new machine controls, process integration, and digital transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, customers, and vendors
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology preferred; candidates without a degree must have 4 years of directly related industrial experience
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley controls and software, including FactoryTalk View, RSLogix, and Studio 5000
- Proficiency with Ignition software
- Experience in:
- Control system software development (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Python)
- Communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, MQTT, OPC UA, Serial)
- SQL and database interactions (reading, writing, querying production data)
- Integration of LabVIEW and other off-the-shelf control systems into PLC logic
- Servo and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Sensors and actuators (thermocouples, MFCs, encoders, pressure controllers, etc.)
- Ability to write procedures, troubleshooting guides, and software documentation
- Ability to create and modify engineering drawings (wiring, equipment layout, etc.) using AutoCAD or similar software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and interpersonal skills
