Position Summary
The MEP Project Manager will lead the delivery of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for a hyperscale data center project in Buffalo, NY. This role is responsible for overseeing design integration, construction execution, and commissioning of all critical systems, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and compliance with mission-critical standards in a challenging cold-weather environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead MEP execution for a large-scale data center development in Buffalo from early design through commissioning and turnover
- Serve as the primary coordination point between owners, consultants, general contractors, and trade partners
- Drive project delivery in alignment with schedule, budget, and quality expectations
Design & Engineering Oversight
- Manage MEP design reviews, ensuring systems meet data center Tier requirements (Uptime Institute, TIA-942)
- Oversee integration of electrical distribution systems (utility service, substations, switchgear, UPS, generators) and mechanical cooling infrastructure (chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units)
- Ensure designs are optimized for cold-weather operation, including free cooling/economization strategies and freeze protection
Construction Management
- Supervise on-site MEP construction activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents, codes, and safety standards
- Coordinate installation of critical long-lead equipment and ensure procurement aligns with project schedule
- Manage subcontractors, with awareness of union labor environments typical in the Buffalo region
Commissioning & Handover
- Lead commissioning processes including Level 1–5 testing, with a strong focus on mission-critical reliability
- Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to validate system performance under operational scenarios
- Ensure complete turnover documentation, training, and operational readiness
Commercial & Risk Management
- Monitor and manage MEP budgets, cost forecasts, and change management
- Identify risks related to weather delays, supply chain, and labor, and implement mitigation strategies
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and change orders
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to HSE standards and New York State/local building codes
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture across all project stakeholders
