Title: C̣aƞkuya Project Manager

Reports to: Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewiċakiya Itaƞcaƞ

Summary Under the direction of the Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewiċakiya Itaƞcaƞ, with assistance provided by the Master Speaker, Education Coordinator, and Dakota Language Teacher, the C̣aƞkuya Project Manager will learn and develop as a Dakota Language teacher to grow the tribe’s Dakota Language Teacher C̣aƞkuya Pathway Credentialing Program. They will oversee all administrative work for the project, collect community input, draft community reports, policies and procedures. The C̣aƞkuya Project Manager will support the apprentices in the C̣aƞkuya Pathway Credential Program and help build its sustainability for the tribe past the ANA grant. Eventually, the position will transition into the Lower Sioux Education Department to help build and sustain the multiple C̣aƞkuya programs the tribe has and will offer.

Duties

  • With the CWOO Director (PI) and Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewiċakiya Itaƞcaƞ, position will oversee all administrative work for the ANA grant, including grant writing and reporting, that will need to be done for the project to be successful;
  • Create an environment that champions Dakota Language importance and work. Speak Dakota when can in and out of formal classes. Attend language classes;
  • Lead the coordination of Community Input for Dakota Language Teacher C̣aƞkuya Pathway Credential work by hosting spaces for community feedback, provide CWOO Director (PI), Dakota Language department, and Master Speakers with documented feedback. Present feedback at community Meeting;
  • Meet weekly with Master Speaker and Dakota Iapi department for coordination of project;
  • Coordinate selection and interviews for Classroom Nest Language Apprentice Candidates, as needed;
  • Coordinate and support the 3 Dakota Language Teachers and 5 Classroom Language Nest Apprentices in their 48-month apprenticeship to become a Credentialed Dakota Language Teacher;
  • Compile documentation, progress reports, fluency assessments, hours, curriculum, feedback from Master Speaker, Apprentices, CWOO Leadership, and partners to coordinate the progress reporting of project;
  • Submit timely reports to the Administration of Native Americans for project;
  • Submit community media to the LSIC news media coordinator and CWOO ERSEA coordinator;
  • Meet regularly with CWOO Director (PI), Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewiċakiya Itaƞcaƞ, and LSIC Education Department to work to grow an education pathway for Dakota Language Teachers;
  • Work with Master-Speaker, Dakota Iapi department, and CWOO Director (PI) to plan and write out sustainability of Dakota Language Teacher Cankuya Pathway Credential for the Lower Sioux;
  • Attend staff training and meetings, and board and parent meetings as requested;
  • When needed, help substitute in a room if substitute teacher is unable to relieve a classroom Nest Language Teacher;
  • Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained; and
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.

Education
Associates Degree in administration preferred.

Experience

Have prior experience with writing reports, coordinating multiple people on a project, and ability to track and analyze data. Have knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices in one of the following, Early Head Start /Head Start (or comparable child development programs), early childhood education, developmentally appropriate practice, and Dakota language, or developing pathways to grow teachers. Proof of a physical examination within the last six months, which includes a tuberculosis test, and comply with other background checks as required by the Agency and/or DCFS licensing respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities; and have education or experience in collaborating with parents in the education of their children.
