OVERVIEW: The Food Bank Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of food bank services and report preparation. In addition, the coordinator provides outreach and social service information and referrals, ensuring that all clients accessing the food bank also have access to the full range of services offered by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. This role includes conducting community outreach and building collaborative relationships with the Port Angeles Food Bank and other local organizations. This position requires performing high-quality work with limited supervision, using initiative, sound judgment, and a strong understanding of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and Social Services programs. The coordinator administers policies and procedures in accordance with Tribal, state, and federal guidelines and performs related duties as needed.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Oversee daily operations of the LEKT Food Bank, ensuring services are consistent, welcoming and open to community needs. 
  • Manage food inventory, including ordering, receiving deliveries, monitor nutritional content, track inventory, and maintain adequate supplies on shelves for community members. 
  • Maintain accurate records, including inventory, client data, and monthly statistical reports.
  • Recruit and provide supportive supervision for Food Bank Volunteers, including training, scheduling, and oversight of daily tasks and customer service.
  • Ensure the food bank, office space, and storage areas are clean, safe, and well organized.
  • Ensure compliance with State of Washington & Clallam County food safety and food handling guidelines.
  • Monitors annual program spending allocation in coordination with Social Services Director. 
  • Work closely with LEKT staff, Program Managers, Directors, and others to provide quality service.
  • Manages client data input and provides monthly statistics report to Social Services Director
  • Participates in supervision and monthly staff meetings, LEKT training, and other agency-related activities.
  • Collaborate with other department initiatives, special events including parish and community outreach in the LEKT Community.
  • Develop and implement processes for food preservation, including use of a freezer dryer to reduce food waste and extend shelf life of donated items.
  • Collaborate with the Education and Training Department to plan and host classes, workshops, and activities related to nutrition, food preservation, and food sovereignty.
  • Comply with all other requests and tasks assigned by the Social Services Director
  • Provide outreach to the neighboring areas in Clallam County and Tribal Communities
  • Offer all clients information about alternative social services.
  • Determine eligibility for EFAP funding and applicants/customers, maintain communication with applicants and vendors, award benefits, maintain records of applicants and recipients, and prepare annual report for the Social Services Director.
  • Participates in cross-functioning activities with program managers and staff to ensure positive performance and timely submission of required reports and scheduled events.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a respectful and responsive approach.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Excellent knowledge of grant requirements, processes and compliance standards
  • Ability to interpret and apply funding agency rules and regulations
  • Ability to maintain professional, collaborative relationships across departments, community partners and with community members. 
  • Must be well organized and have detail-oriented approach
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), and standard office equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems, techniques and procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED, higher education is desired.
  • A minimum of two years of social services experience working in social services field
  • One-year experience working in a Native American community
  • Knowledge of general goals and purpose of the EFAP and Social Services Programs.
  • Ability to be positive, enthusiastic and creative while coordinating a diverse group of individuals and organizations
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages and cultural/economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively, either independently or cooperatively with others and to work a flex schedule based on the program needs
  • Knowledge of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and surrounding communities
  • Must pass UA testing prior to employment and submit random urinalysis upon request
  • Ability to adhere to LEKT Employee Handbook
  • Valid Driver’s License and be eligible for LEKT insurance

  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace policies and personnel policies.
  • Other duties assigned are relevant to job.


As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, this position is Indian Preference in hiring in Accordance with P.L. 93- 638.

Salary : $39,520 - $52,000
