In this vital role, you'll manage the entire billing cycle, from coding diagnoses and procedures to submitting claims and following up on outstanding balances. Duties
- Accurately assign Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9, ICD-10) codes to medical records for proper billing and reimbursement.
- Prepare and submit claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring adherence to payer requirements.
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy before coding, verifying all necessary documentation is present.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection processes, working diligently to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim submissions, adjustments, and collections to support audits and reporting.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for accurate coding.
- Stay current with industry updates related to ICD coding updates, DRG changes, and evolving billing regulations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding principles for community based Medicaid Waiver programs (i.e. CC, CCW, OCCD, SW, LTPCS, SIL NOW, ROW, EPSDT).
- Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems for claim processing and record keeping.
- Knowledge of medical billing processes, including claim submission, follow-up procedures, and collections management.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to handle multiple claims efficiently.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and translate it into appropriate codes.
