Job Title: Temp Facilities Fabricator (Construction) 

Compensation: $21 (DOE)

Position Summary:

As we prepare to open our new building, Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is seeking temporary Facilities Fabricators/Construction Technicians to help bring our unique spaces to life. This 6-month temporary role is perfect for candidates with construction, fabrication, welding, plumbing, or carpentry experience, who thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Ideal candidates are critical thinkers and creative builders who can work from schematics, follow instructions, and proactively identify and solve potential challenges. You’ll help construct animal enclosures, exhibit structures, and other specialty features in and around the new building.

This position is instrumental in helping the Aquarium create engaging, functional, and safe environments for both animals and guests.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on construction or trade experience (carpentry, welding, plumbing, metal work, fabrication, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematics
• Comfortable building and working around animal enclosures and specialty environments
• Valid Utah driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 6 months
• Must be comfortable working in varying indoor/outdoor conditions as well as heights of up to 100 feet.

Critical Skills/Competencies:

• Strong fabrication or trade skills (e.g., welding, framing, plumbing, finishing)
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to build or repair complex structures
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and in teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Able to identify issues proactively and suggest improvements
• Familiarity with hand and power tools and workshop safety protocols
• Able to manage tasks efficiently while maintaining a safe and clean worksite

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Construct and install exhibit features, including animal enclosures, structural supports, and custom fabrication projects
• Assist with general building-related construction, carpentry, and plumbing
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure build quality and functionality
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
• Support preparation and finishing work such as drywall, paint, trim, and sealing
• Troubleshoot and suggest improvements during the build process
• Maintain safety standards and adhere to all safety protocols
• Other construction- or facilities-related duties as assigned

Schedule Requirements:

• Temporary role for 6 months
• Schedule may include weekends, occasional evenings, and some holidays

Physical Demands of the Job:

• Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, and reaching
• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 80 lbs.; up to 100 lbs. with assistance
• Comfortable working at heights up to 100 ft
• Primarily working in a construction and fabrication workshop environment
