Job Title: Phone Nurse
Employment Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Clinical Operations Manager
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM | Friday: 8:00 AM–3:30 PM
Position Summary
We are seeking a full-time Nurse (RN or LPN) to provide patient care in accordance with physician direction and clinic protocols. The Phone Nurse provides assistance to and back up for the Room Nurse to support efficient patient flow and optimize the physician’s schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to patient inquiries and provide education regarding health concerns, diagnostic procedures, medications, lab results, and overall health maintenance to obstetric and gynecologic patients.
- Communicate test results to patients in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide guidance and support to obstetric and gynecologic patients to ensure understand follow-up care and treatment instructions are understood.
- Retrieve and return phone and portal messages promptly after consulting with the physician.
- Document all patient conversations and interactions accurately in the EPIC EMR.
- Schedule surgeries and coordinate with staff, including assistant surgeons, as needed.
- Notify patients of surgery dates, pre-op instructions, and post-op appointments.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Louisiana.
- Current BLS CPR certification.
- Prior nursing experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, and patient education practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Understanding of HIPAA and strict adherence to patient confidentiality standards.
- Must demonstrate punctuality and reliable attendance.
- Must be fluent in both English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in OB-GYN or women’s health setting.
- Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic preferred).
- Experience handling phone triage, patient calls, and test result communication.
- Knowledge of OB-GYN procedures, prenatal care, and surgical preparation.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in an outpatient OB-GYN setting
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as needed during patient care
- Ability to assist patients during exams and procedures
- Ability to safely lift or move equipment (up to 25–50 pounds) using proper body mechanics
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patients and communicate effectively
- Adherence to standard safety, infection control, and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols
