THE POSITION: The Senior Program Specialist will work within the Division of Special Education to support a variety of grants awarded to the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Under the direction of the Director III, Special Education, and the Project Director II, the Senior Program Specialist will provide technical, specialized, consultative, advisory, and planning services related to the goals of each individual grant. The Senior Program Specialist will act as a resource specialist to professional and technical personnel in the specified programs; support programs; identify program needs; implement program objectives; serve as a liaison with other agencies; and conduct training and professional learning. The position requires specialized subject matter expertise in education and significant, directly related experience. Knowledge is applied to analytical problem solving, usually under prescribed and widely used principles and concepts. The Senior Program Specialist will help plan, organize, and deliver professional development related to systems change and transition planning. The Senior Program Specialist also will help organize and plan meetings. They will be required to provide both in-person and remote support to educators and administrators across Los Angeles County and the state. The position will also require travel.
Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of education and experiences for the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Master’s in Education or a related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation Experience: Five or more years of teaching in special education. Experience working with students who are eligible for special education services. Experience with inclusion practices Experience with best practices in training and/or coaching adults Experience working as an academic coach, teacher on special assignment, or in an “out of classroom position” is preferred LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (Must attach a detailed certification/credential with document number to application. Internal and external applicants, please provide a copy of each credential document as it appears on the California Teaching Credential website with the document number on it.): Must possess and maintain a valid Special Education Credential or Education Specialist Credential with an Autism authorization and CLAD Applicants with credentials not recorded with the Los Angeles County Office of Education must submit written evidence of appropriate credentials or eligibility.
