Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking qualified individuals to apply for the position of Deputy Superintendent, Business Services and Operations

The Deputy Superintendent, Business Services and Operations provides executive leadership and strategic oversight of LACOE's business, operational, and administrative functions. As a member of the Superintendent's Executive Cabinet, the position directs enterprise-wide operations, including finance, human resources, technology, facilities, procurement, and risk management, while ensuring fiscal stewardship, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and the effective alignment of resources with LACOE's mission and strategic priorities.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Principles and practices of executive leadership, organizational management, public administration, and strategic planning
  • Public sector finance, budgeting, accounting, procurement, contracts, and resource management
  • Human resources administration, labor relations, organizational development, and workforce planning
  • Technology services, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, infrastructure management, and digital transformation
  • Facilities planning, maintenance and operations, capital projects, and risk management
  • Continuous improvement methodologies, organizational effectiveness practices, and performance management systems
  • Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies governing public agencies and educational organizations

Required Education and Experience
Education: Master's degree in public administration, business administration, organizational leadership, educational leadership, finance, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Ten years of executive leadership experience overseeing multiple operational, administrative, business, or organizational functions within a large public, educational, or governmental agency.

Additional Requirements: Relevant Doctorate degree is preferred. Experience leading enterprise-wide operational strategy, organizational improvement initiatives, and complex cross-functional operations is highly desirable. A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Veterans' Credit may be awarded for entry jobs.
