SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated Nurse House Supervisor to join our team. As a registered professional nurse, under the direction of AVP/Nurse and CNO, is accountable for the administrative coordination of all patient care services division activities which take place during the assigned tour of duty in the Manager’s and/or Director’s absence. Also responsible for staffing and day-to-day Hospital operations. After business hours and on all shifts during weekends and holidays, the Administrative Supervisor. is responsible for overall supervision of the operating of the entire hospital during the assigned shift. All unusual events/problems are to be reported to the Admin Supervisor on call for final evaluations and/or resolution.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consultant to staff in technical and professional matters.
- Knows COBRA Regulations in regard to transfer of patients to another facility.
- Demonstrates clinical competency: Serves as a clinical resource to staff as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of different drug usage-- complies with the Pharmaceutical Act during the hours the pharmacy is closed. Aware of Pharmaceutical Act restricting nurses to dispense "take home" drugs and other ER/prescriptions.
- Reports pertinent information to the House Physician, noting all critical patients and new admissions.
- Assists staff in identifying the nursing needs of patients for development and implementation of patient plan of care.
- Provides for spiritual needs of a patient and securing spiritual help when needed.
- Assists staff interpretation and implementation of nursing, administrative, environmental, and departmental and infection control policies and procedures.
- Obtains information for all transfers in and out of the hospital. Determines and authorizes transfers in accordance to Hospital policy and COBRA regulations.
- Knows the procedure for discharge of patients from Med/Surg to Psych or vice versa.
- Knows confidentiality of information in relation to provide names, telephone routing of patients in the Behavioral Sciences areas.
- Ensures adherence to Hospital policy in the requisition of, and payment for, ambulance service.
- Coordinates patient admissions as necessary; assigning beds to compatible patients whenever possible.
- Maintains discipline and conformity to hospital and departmental policies in all areas, in the absence of Divisional Managers/Alternates, and reporting problems and corrective action taken to appropriate manager.
- Ensures compliance with the Organ Donation Request Act: responsible for completion of the "Certificate of Request for an Anatomical Gift"; notifying Transplant Society/Eye bank as indicated. Completes form attached to Nursing Policy documenting Loretto Hospital's compliance with the law.
- Evaluates cases of child abuse and elderly patients; reports appropriate persons to Civil Authorities when indicated.
- Completes special projects on time.
- Attends meetings of the Hospital Administration, nursing and hospital committees as requested.
- Assists Admitting Office staff in reporting required cases to Office of the Medical Examiner during non-business hours, on all deaths occurring within the first 48 hours of admission.
- Medical Records: Accepts medical record subpoena and submits it to the Medical
- Records Department after business hours. Retrieves Medical Records as necessary.
- Submits reports relative to unusual events, accidents and incidents to appropriate members of the administrative staff
- Initiates Low Census Plan accordingly.
- Maintains assigned C.Q.M. Program.
- Makes patient rounds to ensure adequacy and quality of patient care management; identifies deficiencies and develop methods for improvement. Ensures adherence to Safety Practices and Infection Control.
- Schedules surgery in OR Book during non-business hours.
- Knows Infection Control Procedures when entering the sterile Central Supply Room.
- Knows procedures for initiating charges for supplies taken from Central Supply Room.
- Provides strategic direction for the department providing the resources and boundary conditions for the activities.
- Manages department dynamics, and interpersonal relationships. Communicates regularly with department personnel.
- Functions in a supportive role, one that involves providing guidance. Develops skills, knowledge and abilities of employees through coaching and development approaches.
- Schedules time, tasks, and activities and establishes course of action to accomplish specific goal.
- Develop procedures to monitor and evaluate job activities/tasks on an ongoing basis.
- Implements personnel policies and procedures and administers them fairly and legally.
- Maintains appropriate staffing. Ensures staff development and administers corrective action as appropriate.
- Provide courteous service to internal/external customers in all activities.
- Offers assistance to all internal/external customers as appropriate and/or refers customers to appropriate individual or department.
- Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objectivity and non-judgmental viewpoints.
- Assists in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner.

- Completes and ensures appropriate scheduling of the Administrative supervisor staff.
- Ensures Administrative supervisor staff completes mandatory competencies annually and maintains records of such.
- Completes annual evaluations of Administrative Supervisor staff.
- Participates in relevant committees representing Administrative Supervisor staff.
- Revises policies as necessary.
- Participates in the selection, promotion, and disciplinary action relevant to Administrative supervisor staff.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Illinois Licensed RN,
- Current certification in CPR, BLS, and ACLS.
- Must have (2) two or more years’ experience, including supervisory, in a variety of nursing positions
- Must possess the knowledge and skill in utilizing management principles and methods
- Must demonstrated problem solving ability.
- 2 days or 2 weekend days as required per week.
- Previous 3 years of House Supervisor experience required.
