Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Payroll and Leave Specialist / Financial Services Specialist I (00499) in the Payroll department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialized, professional-level services related to payroll and leave. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to follow up with supervisors who have not approved employee timesheets to ensure all time is recorded accurately.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Process payrolls, reconcile health care and retirement contributions, assist with taxation of out-of-state employees, and prepare quarterly and annual reports
- Perform payroll-related reconciliations, adjustments, and related reports
- Display a high level of sensitivity to the individual needs of employees in understanding pay issues
- Maintain a procedure manual for job duties and responsibilities
- Provide training and guidance to employees and supervisors on payroll-related matters
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state payroll-related regulations, policies, and procedures
- Process salary verifications
- Assist with oversight of the leave program and leave system of record to ensure data integrity prior to payroll processing
- Audit leave payouts prior to processing
- Assist with time entry
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations, and procedures
- Extensive work experience processing payroll, preferably for the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Skilled in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities
- Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Excellent customer service work experience
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and drive multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information
- Demonstrated problem solving, time management, and priority-setting skills
- Strong computer skills, including data entry and working with spreadsheets and databases with a high degree of accuracy
- Extensive knowledge of Cardinal Financial and HCM systems preferred
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia leave policies preferred

This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in pay band 4. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
