What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietician position at Longterm Healthcare Facility?
The Dietician is responsible for assessing the nutritional needs of residents, developing and implementing individualized meal plans, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Dietician works closely with nursing staff, food service personnel, and physicians to promote the health and well-being of residents through proper nutrition.
Key Responsibilities:Assess the nutritional status of new and current residents, including those with special dietary needs.
Develop and monitor individualized nutrition care plans in accordance with medical diagnoses, preferences, and dietary restrictions.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, speech therapists, and food service staff to coordinate resident care.
Conduct regular nutritional assessments and update care plans as needed or required (e.g., quarterly, annually, or upon significant health changes).
Monitor food service operations to ensure adherence to dietary guidelines, portion sizes, sanitation standards, and resident satisfaction.
Educate residents, families, and staff on nutrition-related topics such as diabetic diets, weight management, and swallowing disorders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, state surveys).
Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.
Review and approve menus to ensure they meet the nutritional needs of the residents.
Stay current on best practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory updates related to geriatric nutrition.
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field required.
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required.
Minimum of 1–2 years experience in a long-term care or clinical setting preferred.
Knowledge of MDS 3.0, care planning, and CMS regulations for nursing homes.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
