What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Supervisor, K-8 (elementary) position at Longmeadow Public School District?
REPORTS TO:Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL:To organize, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate special education staff, programs and services at the school level and assist in the continuous improvement of district services.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program
1.Chairs initial and reevaluation I.E.P. meetings, in assigned buildings.
2. Chairs I.E.P. review meetings when requested.
3.Facilitates and supports the writing of initial and reevaluation Individual Educational Plans.
4.Communicates effectively with parents, staff and administration.
5.Assists with the development of special service schedules within assigned buildings.
6.Coordinates the home/hospital referrals, within assigned buildings.
Personnel
7.Facilitates the effective use of special education staff and collaborates on the special education staff schedules in the assigned buildings .
8. Provides guidance and support to regular and special education staff regarding the implementation of special education requirements.
9. Participates in the supervision and evaluation of all paraprofessionals in assigned buildings.
Coordination
10.Coordinates the Special Education staff inservice training along with the Director of Special Education for assigned buildings in conjunction with regular education activities.
11.Meets regularly with the Director of Special Education to review program implementation and coordination, service delivery, and student and staff concerns.
12.Coordinates special education services within assigned buildings.
13.Coordinates and facilitates assigned building Child Study Team meetings and after school special education collaboration/department meetings
14. Assists in the monitoring of out of district students in collaboration with the Director of Special Education
15.Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
EVALUATION:Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association - Unit A.
