In this role, you’ll oversee a skilled union workforce, coordinate cargo stowage and discharge plans, and ensure that both personnel and equipment are ready for smooth, efficient operations. Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily vessel and terminal operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant cargo handling activities.
Coordinate and communicate stowage plans with internal teams, vessel crews, and terminal personnel.
Direct and manage personnel involved in vessel and terminal operations, ensuring proper staffing and productivity.
Monitor, maintain, and update the status of cargo stowage and equipment requirements to support operational readiness.
Ensure all equipment is inspected, operational, and prepared for use prior to and during operations.
Maintain accurate vessel logs, operational reports, and required documentation in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Track employee time, attendance, and labor hours accurately.
Conduct monthly safety meetings, reviews, and required training to promote a strong safety culture.
Oversee union labor operations, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements and company policies.
Collaborate with management to address operational challenges, improve efficiencies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of industry experience preferred; military experience may be substituted.
At least 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a union workforce preferred.
Strong knowledge of cargo handling operations, including related methods and equipment.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply stowage and discharge plans, safety rules, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer-based systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
Additional Information:
This position is based in a port environment and requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and harsh winter conditions.
All candidates must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and pre-employment physical, including a lift test.
Employees must be able to obtain a valid TWIC card within 30 days of hire.
Monday-Friday, day shift, with nights and weekends as needed to support vessel operations. (Shiftwork may be required based on vessel schedules)
Compensation & Benefits:
$70,000-$80,000 per year, depending on experience
