What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant position at LMK Recruiting Solutions?
About the Company
Our client is a rapidly growing real estate development, construction, and property management firm in NYC managing a massive pipeline of ground-up mid-rise and high-rise residential projects.
About the Role
Are you a detail-obsessed numbers person who genuinely enjoys the challenge of balancing complex financial puzzles? Do you get a sense of satisfaction from building flawless Microsoft Excel models and tying out numbers to the penny? If so, this is the role for you. They are seeking a highly analytical Project Accountant to own the "global picture" of their project costs. This is not a traditional construction billing or draw role. Instead, you will manage the financial matrix across our client's multiple operating entities (Development, Management, Materials, and Labor)—tracking, categorizing, and reconciling extensive intercompany transactions, billings, and loans.
Responsibilities
- Global Cost Tracking: Own the data entry, categorization, and tracking for specific residential construction projects to deliver a clear, real-time picture of global expenditures.
- Intercompany Reconciliations: Manage the heavy intercompany transaction highway, including internal cross-billing, labor/material allocations, and intercompany loans across multiple corporate entities.
- Ledger Management: Maintain and oversee the QuickBooks Online (QBO) environment, meticulously reconciling accounts and ensuring flawless financial data hygiene.
- Financial Problem Solving: Systematically audit and allocate expenses to their exact project codes, proactively tracking down and resolving discrepancies when accounts don't immediately balance.
- Spreadsheet Optimization: Maintain and utilize complex Excel files to assist leadership in analyzing cost structures and scaling our client's various business verticals.
Qualifications
- Experience: 4–5 years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally with exposure to a multi-entity corporate structure.
- Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and elite-level Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas).
- The "Puzzle-Solver" Mindset: A strong fundamental grasp of financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheets) and an innate drive to reconcile numbers perfectly. You are someone who stays calm, organized, and analytical when things don't immediately add up.
- Industry Exposure (Huge Plus): Prior experience working within Real Estate Development, Ground-up Construction, or Property Management is highly preferred.
