An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Construction Litigation Associate to join a highly respected regional law firm with a well-established Construction practice serving clients throughout the Southeast.
This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated construction disputes and transactional matters while advising a broad range of industry participants, including developers, owners, contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, sureties, lenders, and public sector entities. The successful candidate will receive meaningful responsibility from day one, working closely with experienced attorneys on high-profile matters while developing their own client relationships.
The Role
You'll become an integral member of a collaborative Construction team handling complex disputes and providing strategic legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Representing clients in construction litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other dispute resolution proceedings.
- Advising clients on construction contract disputes, delay claims, payment disputes, change order claims, defect claims, and termination issues.
- Drafting pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, discovery, and other litigation documentation.
- Assisting with the negotiation and drafting of construction contracts for a variety of project delivery methods, including design-build, construction management, and traditional delivery models.
- Conducting legal research and developing case strategy.
- Appearing at hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
- Advising clients on risk management and construction project issues before disputes arise.
- Working closely with clients, expert witnesses, consultants, and project stakeholders throughout each matter.
About You
The successful candidate will possess:
- 2 years' experience in Construction Litigation, Commercial Litigation, or a closely related practice area.
- Admission to practice law in North Carolina, or eligibility to become admitted.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Excellent legal drafting, research, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Experience handling hearings, depositions, mediations, or arbitrations is advantageous.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within Construction Law.
