Heavy Equipment Mechanic
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of mobile and production equipment that supports Living Earth’s mulch, soil, composting, and material-handling operations. This role performs both shop-based and field repairs across multiple Middle Tennessee sites and plays a key part in minimizing downtime and ensuring safe, reliable operation of all equipment.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- 3–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong experience with electrical/ECM/DEF systems.
- Skilled in hydraulic diagnostics, hose assembly, and fitting work.
- Ability to perform welding and light fabrication.
- Proficient in reading and using service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Comfortable performing field repairs on large equipment and trucks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and urgency in minimizing equipment downtime.
- Ability to communicate professionally with operators, managers, and vendors.
Licenses / Certifications
- CDL-A license required (for operation of the service truck).
- Must have own tools suitable for heavy equipment repair.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and training to equipment operators.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
- Frequently required to climb onto and off of large equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50–75 lbs on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and outdoor yard environments in all seasons.
Work Environment
- Primarily outdoor yard and shop environment in active mulch, compost, and soil production facilities.
- Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, heavy truck and equipment traffic, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
Salary : $25 - $28
