What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic position at AMI Construction, Inc?
We’re seeking an experienced Field Mechanic to support our asphalt paving division. This role is critical to keeping our fleet of CAT equipment, asphalt pavers, and heavy trucks operating efficiently in the field. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, dependable, and able to diagnose and repair equipment on-site with minimal downtime.
Job Responsibilities
- Travel to job sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment including pavers, skid steers, dozers, and motor graders
- Perform on-site repairs for heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles as needed
- Respond quickly to field service calls to minimize equipment downtime
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues in the field
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on equipment at job sites
- Weld and fabricate as needed to complete repairs in the field
- Coordinate with shop personnel and supervisors regarding major repairs or parts needs
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and daily activity reports
- Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and company policies
- Operate a service truck and maintain tools, parts inventory, and cleanliness
Skills Needed
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- 3–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment or field mechanic
- Strong experience with CAT equipment diagnostics and repair
- Experience working on asphalt paving equipment in a field environment
- Heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair experience
- Solid understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documents
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in the field
- Willingness to work weekends (Saturdays)
Salary : $30 - $45
