About the Role

Littleton Winter Shelter is seeking a motivated, experienced Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of an emergency overnight, low-barrier* winter shelter in Littleton, NH. The shelter will serve up to 14 individuals experiencing homelessness each night.

We're looking for someone who can juggle multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and work independently as a self-starter. The Manager is responsible for the overall safety, security, and daily operations of the shelter, and for supporting guests with compassion and consistency.

*A low-barrier shelter provides immediate access to shelter without requiring criteria such as criminal background checks, credit checks, income verification, program participation, sobriety, or identification.

Position Details

Schedule

32 hours/week; flexible hours including some evenings, early mornings, and occasional overnights or weekends

Contract Length

December 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027 (4 months)

Pay

Salary approximately $25/hour

On-Call

Required when not on-site, to field questions and help resolve issues as they arise

Physical Demands

Some heavy lifting required (cots, supplies, etc.)

Start/end dates may shift; candidate must be adaptable

Key Responsibilities

Staffing

  • Ensure the shelter is staffed by at least two people at all times during operating hours (6:00 PM–7:00 AM)
  • Coordinate staff and volunteer scheduling
  • Ensure staff are trained to de-escalate conflict and respond to guests with courtesy and compassion
  • Ensure staff/volunteers understand safety protocols, including when to involve emergency responders or police

Administration

  • Develop and utilize an online intake process and other relevant operational requirements
  • Manage budget, ensuring costs are within budget
  • Collect and report guest demographic data and shelter-related expenses for monthly reporting
  • May be asked to provide updates to the Board on shelter operations; escalate operational challenges as needed
  • Support coordination of facility upgrades, renovations, and shelter set-up prior to opening in December

Health & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, safe shelter environment daily
  • Ensure staff consistently follow safety protocols
  • Coordinate donations of food and other materials
  • Monitor and maintain adequate supplies
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs to identify issues and adjust practices as needed
  • Ensure staff are certified in CPR, First Aid, and Narcan administration
  • Provide guests with a warm-handoff to relevant community resources such as general assistance, mental health/crisis support, substance use recovery services, food pantries, immigrant resources, and more
  • Track connections to community resources

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience serving people experiencing homelessness (residential experience a plus) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental illness and/or substance use challenges
  • Working knowledge of homelessness and its underlying causes
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy
  • Experience in facilities management and staff supervision
  • Sensitivity to the challenges faced by people who are unsheltered or unhoused
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Excel, and other data management systems.
