Job Title: Family Shelter Day and Overnight Staff
Salary Range: $25.50 an hour *** This rate starts July 13th, if hired before, the rate will be $24/hr until July.***
Position Type: Part-time and Per-diem
Location: Waterbury
Reports to: Shelter Manager and Director of Operations and Services
DAYTIME STAFF($25.50/hr): Shifts can vary from full 8 hour shifts, or 4 to 5 hour shifts anywhere between7:00 am and 10:00pm, every day of the week.
Position Overview
The Shelter Staff are present during the day, welcome new guests and volunteers, complete new intakes, maintain clear communication adhering to House Expectations, and support the Shelter Manager in operating the shelter as needed. Overnight staff conduct nightly routines, morning routines, and must be able to wake up in case of an emergency.
Responsibilities:
- Follow daily routines like opening the shelter, signing guests in, helping with meals, etc.
- Welcome and supervise returning and new guests, including volunteers and dinner providers.
- Complete intake paperwork for new guests.
- Adhere to shelter rules in order to ensure safety and respect.
- Create safe space in order to best support guests in shelter.
- Support referral partners who may visit, remind guests of appointments.
- Oversee guest’s daily chores and maintenance of house cleanliness.
- Make hourly rounds to ensure safety of guests.
- Create and maintain client files minimally including: intake documents, release of information forms, adherence to house rules, and case notes.
- Attend LCH staff meetings.
- Attend relevant training opportunities as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding our guests.
- Help guests with telehealth appointments.
- Assist guests with applications for benefits.
- Help maintain cleanliness of the house and make sure that all supplies are stocked.
- Turn over bedrooms when guests depart shelter.
- Perform weekly room inspections and help guests correct any issues or violations.
- Use a restorative approach when talking to guests about behavioral issues.
- Support dinner activities by warming up prepared donated meals and helping guests clean up after the meal.
- Supervise open kitchen hours, clean dishes as needed.
- Use google drive documents to log communications, shelter stays, report incidents, and other relevant information.

OVERNIGHT STAFF($25.50/hr): Overnights 9pm to 7am, or 10pm to 8am, weekdays and weekends
Position Overview
Overnight Staff help maintain a safe and peaceful environment for those experiencing homelessness and residing at our shelter. This is a sleeping position with duties and responsibilities before and after going to sleep. Although this position is a sleeping position, staff need to be able to wake up to tend to situations as they occur. Overnight Staff are responsible for ensuring that guests adhere to the guidelines established like curfew, quiet time, and aiding in waking and getting guests ready to leave the shelter in the morning (when applicable).
Responsibilities:
- Follow night and morning routines like reminding guests of curfew and quiet time, opening the kitchen and helping guests get ready for the day.
- Maintaining a safe environment for the guests to rest. If situations arise that need attention, knowing to call on-call staff and any other resources appropriate for the situation.
- Log into LCH communication log after every shift.
- Attend LCH staff meetings.
- Attend relevant training opportunities as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding our guests.
- Be able to wake up and tend to situations if they occur in the middle of the night.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or two years of experience in human services, social work, non-profit, or related field preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Ability to employ independent problem-solving strategies in rapidly changing situations.
- Understanding of systemic and generational poverty, substance misuse disorders, mental health disorders and their impact on those experiencing homelessness.
Evaluation Process: Evaluation of performance by the Executive Director, Shelter Manager, and Shelter Staff Lead on an annual basis.
