QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Completion of 60 or more college credit hours prior to coaching OR serving as a Provisional Assistant for THREE school years
2. A Professional Teacher’s Certificate OR NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course (online) passed prior to coaching
3. Preferred previous coaching experience in assigned sport
4. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director who provides overall objectives and final evaluations in conjunction with the building administrator.

JOB GOAL: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

1. Implements and complies with the district rules, regulations, and policies of the Board of Education.
2. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. Communicates appropriately with supervisors, other employees, students, and visitors.
3. Maintain an acceptable standard of personal appearance.
4. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
5. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
6. Inform students of all safety precautions and fundamentals concerning the activity that they will be participating in.
7. Assists with organizing and supervising a total sports program. Helps plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season. 
8. Assists with the development of performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competitions in the sport.
9. Instill in students the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship as well as the importance of their exhibiting such sportsmanship with their actions during practices and games. Maintain student discipline and respect for others and property.
10. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
11. Supervise students at practice, at an activity, or during transportation to or from an activity for which the sponsor is assigned. This includes waiting at the school until all students have been picked up after an activity.
12. Works closely with the head coach in interscholastic contests.
13. Assists with all activities, fundraisers, contests, trips, practices, etc.
14. Care for all equipment and/or materials, making sure that each is properly stored after practices and/or games.
15. Helps maintain an inventory of all equipment and/or materials that are used with their activity.  
16. Helps make recommendations to the head coach on the budget of purchases, and anticipated expenditures, of equipment or other materials that might be needed for their activity.
17. Helps gather information for all required reports, such as eligibility, insurance, physicals, trip requests, rosters, state contests, articles, etc.
18. Helps oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
19. Secure the building/facility and turn off lights if the last person to leave the school grounds after an activity or practice.
20. Assume responsibility for other tasks and duties as required or assigned by a supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
