What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist position at Life Extension?
This position is responsible for leading product design from concept to formulation; including scientific research, ingredient review, and vendor documentation evaluation. This role is critical to supporting the development of a high volume of quality products with high scientific integrity.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and develop new nutraceutical ingredients and product concepts from ideation through formulation
- Critically evaluate clinical research, including biostatistical analysis, to assess ingredient efficacy and safety
- Assess new product opportunities to determine safety, efficacy, viability, dosage, regulatory compliance, and scientific validation
- Deliver in-depth scientific evaluations and develop technical documentation to support ingredient selection and product formulations
- Develop compelling product concepts and formally present to executive and ownership stakeholders
- Provide source documents and scientific interpretation to support editorial/magazine and marketing content
- Review internal documents (ads, articles, marketing content, product directory, etc.) for scientific accuracy and consistency
- Stay current on emerging ingredients, technologies, and industry trends; proactively bring forward relevant opportunities
- Collaborate with key internal partners to source high-quality ingredients for new formulas
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with ingredient and technology suppliers
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups including Marketing, Magazine, Scientific Affairs, Business Development, Legal, Customer Service, Purchasing, and QA/QC as appropriate
- Research and respond to elevated member issues involving product and ingredient questions/concerns; providing timely and accurate responses
- Demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to learn and apply new AI-assisted workflows as the role evolves
- Limited travel as needed
- 2 onsite days per week is an essential function of this position

Position Requirements:
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Nutritional Science, Medical Science, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years research experience
- Experience in developing and interpreting interventional clinical studies including biostatistical analysis
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership
- High attention to detail with a consistent track record of producing accurate, thorough, and well-documented work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with overlapping timeline
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Dietary supplement and product development experience a plus
- Familiarity with FDA regulations and dietary supplement compliance requirements
- Familiarity with AI tools in research or literature review workflows
