Position Details:

  • Salary Range: $70,304 - $72,000 annually
  • Full-Time, Exempt 
  • On-site in Hayward, CA  (possibility of a hybrid work arrangement subject to approval and operational needs)

Position Overview
The Learning Analytics Specialist supports the collection, validation, analysis, and reporting of learning and clinical education data across Health Center, Learning Management System (LMS), Student Information System (SIS), and related systems. This role helps produce dashboards, reports, and validated metrics that inform student learning, progression, retention, completion, accreditation, and instructional effectiveness. Working closely with Institutional Research, Health Center Compliance, and Educational Technology, the position translates complex educational data into clear, actionable insights for faculty and institutional leadership.

Job Responsibilities

Learning Analytics, Data Integration, and Quality Management

  • Work with the Health Center Compliance Officer, Educational Technology Manager, OIRA, Academic Affairs, Health Center leadership, faculty, and other campus partners on basic learning analytics projects.
  • Help build, maintain, check, and improve dashboards, datasets, and reports from the LMS, SIS, Health Center systems, surveys, and other educational tools.
  • Check data for accuracy by reviewing, fixing, and cleaning information to ensure consistent and reliable reporting on student learning, engagement, clinical education, and progression.
  • Keep simple documentation for data and reports, including definitions, basic tracking notes, and updates needed for dashboards and recurring reports.
  • Flag issues or gaps in data systems and suggest improvements to help make reports more accurate and easier to use.

Student Progression, Retention, and Learning Success Analytics

  • Help review student data to identify trends in progress, course engagement, clinical milestones, academic risk, retention, completion, and readiness for key program steps.
  • Assist with group and program-level reporting to support decisions about student success, learning outcomes, and academic support needs.
  • Support early-alert and student success efforts by tracking basic indicators, identifying patterns, and helping evaluate support services.
  • Help support students who may be considering withdrawal or who are experiencing academic or clinical challenges, in coordination with appropriate staff.

Dashboards, Reporting, and Decision-Support Products

  • Help create and maintain dashboards, routine reports, and simple decision-support tools for leadership, faculty, student support teams, and institutional effectiveness staff.
  • Run regular and on-demand reports to answer questions related to academics, clinical education, accreditation, and student success, ensuring results are accurate and repeatable.
  • Prepare clear summaries, basic visuals, and short presentations that explain findings, limitations, and key takeaways for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support the use of institutional data for reporting, planning, accreditation, program review, and internal decision-making.

Teaching, Learning, Clinical Education, and Course Improvement Analytics

  • Review basic LMS data, course activity, assessment results, and clinical education information to help support teaching and learning improvement.
  • Work with faculty and staff to turn learning data into simple insights that can be used to improve courses, clinical training, and student support.
  • Provide basic analysis for key courses, clinical experiences, and program-level outcomes that support student success and accreditation needs.
  • Help faculty and staff understand what the data shows, including what it can and cannot tell us, and promote responsible use of student information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, statistics, information systems, computer science, education, psychology, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in data analysis, reporting, institutional research, educational technology, or a related area (including internships, assistantships, or project-based work).
  • Basic ability to collect, clean, analyze, and communicate data clearly and accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to interpret data trends and present findings in clear, understandable language.
  • Familiarity with surveys, dashboards, or reporting tools is a plus.

Preferred Skills & Education

  • 2 years of related experience in institutional research, data analysis, or student success analytics.
  • Experience in higher education or a student-facing environment.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Excel, SQL, R, Python, SPSS, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics) and/or learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace).
  • Exposure to student success metrics such as retention, progression, completion, or engagement.
  • Experience translating data into reports or presentations for non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding of data governance, documentation, and privacy best practices.
