This position is for a Registered Nurse, Unit Coordinator whose responsibility is to coordinate the day-to-day patient care activities to patients receiving therapeutic and diagnostic services in Emergency Department.  The position reports to the Director of Emergency Department.

  2. Exhibits a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient/residents safety, corporate compliance and infection control.
  3. Possesses knowledge of reporting errors or near misses without fear or blame/punishment for reporting accidents/incidents.  Addresses and reports problems as they arise. 
  4. Completes required competencies, licensure, certification and registration recertification in a timely manner, as well as participates in continuing education.  
  5. Arrives to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours.  Maintains flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of the department.
  6. Provides age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
  7. Attends required departmental meetings and in-services.
  8. Utilizes equipment and materials in a cost effective manner.
  9. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  10. Serves as a preceptor in orienting and/or training new personnel.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE  

  1. Completes an initial patient interview and admission assessment within timeframes specified by protocol.
  2. Formulates a patient problem list from collected information.
  3. Formulates a patient plan of care within timeframe specified by protocol.
  4. Re-evaluates patient and revises plan of care within timeframe specified by policy and procedure. Communicates changes as they are noted.  Assists other nurses in the revision of the care plan.                                                     
  5. Involves the patient and family in planning care and determining achievable outcomes.
  6. Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to plan for patient discharge, beginning with the initial patient contact. 
  7. Utilizes an interactive teaching-learning process for patient education.
  8. Documents all nursing actions accurately and as specified by protocol.
  9. Administers medications and solutions in a safe and timely manner. Uses scanner.
  10. Monitors the patient’s physiological status during local procedures, as specified by protocol.
  11. Directs and provides care for the critically ill patient.
  12. Takes appropriate actions to ensure continuity of care when arranging and participating in patient’s transfers.
  13. Coordinates shift activities and delegates duties to staff members in accordance with the individual’s educational and skill level.
  14. Acts as an intercessor in patient care activities between the unit and the other interdisciplines.
  15. Calculates required staffing ratios for the shift based on patient acuity, patient volume and predetermined standards.
  16. Implements appropriate nursing actions before transfer of the patient to the surgical environment.
  17. Assesses and maintains proper body alignment and tissue integrity during and after procedure in accordance with individual needs and as dictated by the procedure.
  18. Adheres to the principles of asepsis, identifies potential breaks in techniques and intervenes appropriately.
  19. Monitors and controls the environment during assigned cases.
  20. Assumes responsibilities for personnel, scheduling and patient flow across the areas of the department. 
  21. Takes responsibility for department management duties as assigned,
  22. Takes weekday, weekend, and holiday call on a rotating basis.

 

Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1.     Minimum level of Education:  Preferred Education level equivalent to completion of an associate degree in nursing required.

2.    Formal Training: Clinical competence in nursing required. 

 

3.    Licensure, Certifications & Registration: Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Georgia; BLS certification required; ACLS certification required within 90 days of employment.  

 

4.    Work Experience Advanced technical nursing skills.  Intermediate knowledge of the nursing process.  Basic   cardiac arrhythmia identification skills.  Basic computer skills.  Minimum of one (1) year of emergency experience required.

 

5.    Physical Requirements Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

 

6.     CDC Guidelines and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health: 

        Category III – Tasks involving exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue.
