What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education/Adaptive PE Teacher position at Liberty Public Schools?
The Adaptive Physical Education (PE) Teacher develops and implements programs that enhance the physical skills and abilities of students with developmental challenges. Responsibilities include supervising students, creating and delivering both group and individualized instruction, and developing effective lesson plans tailored to student needs.
The Adaptive Physical Education (PE) Teacher also involves collaborating with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom-related matters, as well as communicating with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and respond to questions regarding the instructional program.
Essential Functions
- Adapts classroom work by providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. to assess student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. physical and perceptual motor needs, etc.) to provide feedback to students, parents and the IEP team.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Coordinates activities with occupational and physical therapists, classroom teachers and/or community agency personnel.
- Counsels students on improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Develops specialized equipment and programs that help to improve students' motor skills.
- Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
- Instructs and supports students, instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, parents and other staff that will assist students in maximizing their motor skills.
- Manages student behavior that provides a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) and provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of meetings that conveys and/or gathers information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Board Policy.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
- Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
Experience
Job related experience is desired.

Bachelor's degree in job related area.

Salary : $45,386 - $91,606
