What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Science Teacher position at Liberty Public Schools?
The Middle School Teacher supports the instructional process by serving as a classroom teacher with responsibility for promoting student success in academic subjects (e.g., language arts, mathematics, science, history, foreign language) and/or skills-based areas (e.g., art, music, physical education).
Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual instruction in alignment with established curriculum guidelines, instructional methodologies, and best practices. Supervises students within the classroom and other assigned settings to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
Collaborates with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom-related needs. Communicates with parents and guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress, responding to a wide range of inquiries.
Essential Functions
- Administers subject-specific assessments and district and/or state tests (e.g., MAP) to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, highlight student achievements, develop improvement strategies, and reinforce classroom goals at home.
- Analyzes test data to enhance student achievement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration, and to seek support from district specialists when needed.
- Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school improvement goals.
- Counsels students to improve performance, health awareness, problem-solving skills, and address personal concerns.
- Demonstrates methods required to complete classroom and subject-specific assignments to support individual student needs.
- Differentiates instruction to provide materials and strategies aligned with individualized learning needs within lesson plans.
- Directs para-professionals, volunteers, and student workers to support an effective classroom environment.
- Facilitates student learning by creating engaging environments, integrating technology, organizing activities, and coordinating field trips to support academic, interpersonal, and life skills development.
- Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Interacts consistently with students to support learning and engagement.
- Maintains confidential and non-confidential records (e.g., grades, test scores) to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manages student behavior to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
- Monitors students in various settings (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips, extracurricular activities) to ensure safety and promote a positive environment.
- Participates in meetings at the building and district level (e.g., PLC, staff, SAP, department) to share and gather necessary information.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance concerns) to ensure student safety and compliance with policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns or refer to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from students, staff, parents, and administrators to provide information, direction, and resolution.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: Bachelors degree in job-related area.
