The High School Teacher supports the instructional process by providing subject-matter expertise and delivering instruction to promote student success in academic areas (e.g., language arts, mathematics, science, history) and/or skill-based subjects (e.g., art, music, physical education).
Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual instruction aligned with established curriculum guidelines. Supervises students within the classroom and other assigned settings to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
Collaborates with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom needs. Communicates with parents and/or legal guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress, responding to a wide range of inquiries.
Essential Functions
- Administers subject-specific assessments and district and/or state tests (e.g., MAP) to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, share student achievement, develop improvement strategies, and reinforce classroom goals at home.
- Analyzes test data and plans instructional responses to enhance student achievement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration, and to seek support from district specialists when needed.
- Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school improvement goals.
- Counsels students to improve performance and develop problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates methods required to complete classroom and subject-specific assignments (e.g., language arts, mathematics, science, history) to support individual learning needs.
- Differentiates instruction and integrates district initiatives (e.g., literacy plans, diversity initiatives, technology requirements) to support individualized learning, increase student achievement, and enhance the overall learning environment.
- Directs para-professionals, volunteers, and student workers to support an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
- Facilitates student learning by creating engaging environments, integrating technology, organizing activities, and coordinating field trips to support academic, interpersonal, and life skills development.
- Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Interacts consistently with students to support learning and engagement.
- Maintains confidential and non-confidential records (e.g., grades, test scores) to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manages student behavior to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Monitors students in various settings (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips, extracurricular activities) to ensure safety and promote a positive environment.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., PLC, staff, SAP, department, faculty) to share and gather necessary information.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance concerns) to ensure student safety and compliance with policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns or refer to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from students, staff, parents, and administrators to provide information, direction, and resolution.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: Bachelors degree in job-related area.
