We are seeking a Right of Way Specialist to support utility infrastructure projects by acquiring land rights and working directly with landowners, local agencies, and project teams. This position supports ongoing infrastructure projects and offers the opportunity to work directly with landowners, municipalities, and project teams in a collaborative environment.
Position Summary
The Right of Way Specialist acquires land rights required for the construction, operation, and maintenance of utility infrastructure. This role negotiates with private landowners and governmental agencies to secure easements, leases, and other property rights while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Negotiate with private landowners, tenants, and governmental agencies to acquire land rights for infrastructure and utility projects.
Secure property rights including fee simple purchases, easements, leases, temporary workspace agreements, licenses, permits, and ordinances.
Support acquisition activities related to distribution and utility easement projects.
Conduct due diligence to verify land rights documentation and identify deficiencies requiring corrective action.
Serve as liaison with landowners and tenants regarding ownership, easement rights, access issues, and damage claims.
Represent the company at meetings with municipalities, zoning boards, townships, drainage boards, and county officials.
Review survey drawings, engineering plans, construction drawings, and title documents related to land acquisition.
Maintain accurate documentation of negotiations, agreements, and property rights.
Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in the Right of Way or Real Estate industry.
At least 1 year of experience acquiring land rights or easements.
Utility Or Distribution Easement Acquisition Experience Preferred.
Strong negotiation and communication skills when working with landowners and public agencies.
Knowledge of settlement instruments, contracts, and land acquisition agreements.
Ability to interpret survey drawings, engineering plans, construction drawings, and title documents.
Proficiency in land title research and abstract review.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
