Project Accountant
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)
Compensation: $90,000 - $100,000 Bonus (DOE)
Our client, a growing real estate development and investment organization, is seeking a Project Accountant to support the accounting and financial management of multiple development and construction projects. This role will partner closely with project managers, development teams, and executive leadership to oversee project financials from acquisition through completion.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain project-level accounting records for active development and construction projects
- Monitor project budgets, commitments, and expenditures throughout the project lifecycle
- Review and process construction draws, vendor invoices, and payment applications
- Prepare monthly project financial statements and variance analyses
- Track construction costs and ensure accurate job cost allocations
- Reconcile project bank accounts, loan activity, and escrow accounts
- Assist with forecasting cash flow needs and project funding requirements
- Coordinate with lenders, contractors, developers, and external auditors
- Support project capitalization and fixed asset accounting upon project completion
- Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, and financial compliance requirements
- Ensure accounting records comply with GAAP and company policies
- Identify process improvements and strengthen internal controls related to development accounting
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within:
- Real Estate Development
- Construction Accounting
- Commercial Real Estate
- Property Accounting
- Strong understanding of job costing and project accounting principles
- Experience tracking development budgets and construction expenditures
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, Sage Intacct, JD Edwards, Timberline, Viewpoint, or other construction/real estate accounting software
- Knowledge of development financing, construction loans, and draw processes
- Experience supporting mixed-use, multifamily, industrial, office, or commercial development projects
