Payroll Coordinator
Location: Shakopee, MN
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: $50k-$60k
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Payroll Coordinator to join their growing payroll team in Shakopee, MN. This is a hybrid, permanent role ideal for an early to mid career payroll professional who is eager to grow their payroll expertise over time. While the role will not start with full end to end payroll processing, it is expected to grow into a broader payroll position as the coordinator gains experience and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Support & Monitoring
- Support payroll activities across each pay cycle, with approximately 10% direct payroll involvement initially
- Monitor automated payroll processes to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Review payroll files before they feed into payroll
- Review and validate time tickets prior to payroll processing
- Assist with payroll pulled weekly (Wednesdays)
- Upload and manage 401(k) payroll files
Ticketing & Issue Resolution
- Monitor and respond to payroll-related tickets daily using a ticketing system
- Research and resolve payroll inquiries related to:
- Timekeeping discrepancies
- New hire setup issues
- Payroll system disconnects
- Partner with Payroll Specialists, noting that some tickets may be resolved by specialists directly
- Manage fluctuating ticket volumes depending on payroll cycle and location needs
Garnishments & Compliance
- Process garnishments in ADP Workforce Now
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Manage employee terminations related to garnishments
Administrative & Accounting Support
- Handle incoming payroll-related mail
- Edit and correct Social Security time entries
- Assist with invoicing activities, including:
- Reviewing invoices
- Managing approvals
- Using spreadsheets to track data
- Occasional phone follow-ups as needed
Systems & Tools
- ADP Workforce Now (primary system)
- Upcoming Timeclock implementation planned for June/July

Ideal Candidate Profile
- Early career to mid level payroll professional
- Not entry-level, but open to learning and development
- Prior ticketing system experience strongly preferred
- Some payroll processing experience required (ADP experience preferred, not required)
- Experience processing payroll for ~50 employees is ideal
- Degree not required; practical experience is valued
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle fluctuating workloads
