What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Planning and Analysis Specialist position at LHH?
LHH is partnering with a fast-growing, PE-backed company to add an FP&A Analyst to their team in San Francisco. This is a high-visibility, direct hire opportunity reporting into FP&A leadership with regular exposure to executive leadership, including the CFO.
About the Role:
This position sits within a lean, highly analytical FP&A team and will play a key role in supporting company-wide financial planning, reporting, and strategic analysis. The environment is very Excel-driven, with strong cross-functional exposure to accounting, operations, and leadership.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting
• Variance analysis across key expense drivers and company P&L
• Deep-dive analysis to understand business trends and drivers
• Supporting monthly close and ad hoc requests from leadership
• Improving and refining existing financial reporting processes
• Partnering cross-functionally across accounting, operations, and leadership
Core Analytical Areas:
• Payroll analysis and variance reporting (largest expense category)
• Utilities analysis (variance driven by usage vs. rate)
• Full company P&L variance analysis with root cause insights
What They’re Looking For:
• 1–2 years of experience in FP&A, Big 4, investment banking, consulting, or similar analytical finance roles
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, general modeling)
• Analytical thinker who can translate data into actionable insights
• High ownership, curiosity, and attention to detail
• Strong interest in the business and ability to articulate a compelling “why”
