What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Controller position at LHH?
The Controller is the senior finance leader for the company, responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting and the effectiveness of the controllership function. This hands‑on leader will own the monthly close, cost and inventory accounting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, and internal controls while serving as a strategic business partner to the President and leadership team. The ideal candidate brings deep manufacturing accounting expertise, a continuous‑improvement mindset, and the ability to develop a high‑performing team in a fast‑paced, make‑to‑order/standard‑cost environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and streamline the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close; deliver GAAP‑compliant financial statements by business day 5.
- Prepare and present monthly financial package (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs, variance analysis, dashboards) to the President and leadership team.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies; ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Cost, Inventory & Manufacturing Finance
- Lead standard cost setting and updates (BOMs, routings, labor and overhead rates); analyze purchase price variances (PPV), manufacturing variances, and yield/scrap.
- Oversee inventory valuation, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory; drive inventory accuracy ≥98% and excess/obsolete reserves policy.
- Partner with Operations on productivity tracking, make‑vs‑buy, capacity utilization, and capital spend ROI.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Decision Support
- Lead the annual operating plan and rolling forecasts (sales, margin, SG&A, capex, cash).
- Build models to evaluate pricing, customer/product profitability, and scenario planning (volume/mix impacts).
- Translate insights into actions; recommend cost reduction and margin expansion initiatives.
Cash, Banking & Compliance
- Manage daily cash forecasting, working capital, A/R collections, and A/P optimization; maintain banking relationships.
- Monitor loan covenants and support audits, tax filings (with external CPA firm), insurance renewals, and corporate governance needs.
- Ensure appropriate internal controls, segregation of duties, and policy adherence; remediate gaps proactively.
Systems, Process & Data
- Serve as finance owner of the ERP (e.g., Epicor, Dynamics, SAP B1, NetSuite—experience with any modern manufacturing ERP is valuable).
- Improve data integrity, automate reporting (Power BI/Excel models), and shorten close/forecast cycles.
- Champion Lean/CI in finance processes; standardize SOPs and documentation.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of five; set clear goals, provide feedback, and build succession depth.
- Model integrity, accountability, and collaboration; act as a trusted advisor to the President and plant leadership.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
- Experience: 8–12 years progressive accounting/finance experience with at least 5 years in manufacturing and 2–3 years leading a team.
- Proven ownership of monthly close, cost accounting, and inventory in a standard‑cost environment.
- Strong command of US GAAP, internal controls, and audit readiness (private company).
- Advanced proficiency with ERP (cost/inventory modules), Excel, and ideally Power BI or similar.
- Demonstrated success improving processes, shortening close cycles, and elevating reporting/analytics.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non‑finance leaders.
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and hands‑on levels in a mid‑sized, entrepreneurial company.
