Position Description
Position Title: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor (Maintenance IV)
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Director of Operations

SUMMARY:
Direct and lead the maintenance of all athletic and campus grounds areas; ensure that all landscaped areas are safe, well groomed, and aesthetically attractive. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Lexington School District 2.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise ground crews and participate in the ground's maintenance of the District's athletic fields and campus grounds areas.
- Train personnel to perform the various job requirements.
- Evaluate grounds personnel and perform annual evaluation of job performance.
- Develop and manage the calendar of grounds maintenance.
- Determine the need for painting, spraying, and fertilizing.
- Determine the need for pest control.
- Solicit, evaluate, and recommend the purchase of grounds supplies and equipment.
- Must communicate and work with campus administrators and athletic departments to meet their scheduled events.
- Maintain and document all fixed assets pertaining to the grounds program.

- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Minimum of 5 years supervisor experience, preferably in the area of maintaining physical facilities in a school district
- Ability to supervise and direct personnel
- Ability to be polite and courteous to people in the course of duties
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work with school personnel, contractors and their employees, and the public
- Ability to work in the absence of immediate supervision
- Ability to work with other people
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management (Preferred)
- SC non-commercial applicators license (Preferred)
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the use and operation of landscape and athletic field maintenance equipment
- Experience in planning for grounds and other preventive, corrective and casualty maintenance
- Knowledge of turf, soil, trees and landscaping diseases, herbicides, pesticides, and fertilization
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all members of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions either written or oral
- Ability to prioritize work load and to be flexible with work tasks
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, maintain emotional control at all times. Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Ability to physically lift and carry boxes up to 50 pounds. Riding, walking, or standing 8 hours per day: frequent district-wide travel; inside and outside exposure to weather, dust, pollen, and other materials.
