Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Family and Consumer Science Teacher to serve as a long-term substitute in our school. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family and consumer sciences and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. This full-time position requires the ability to engage students in practical life skills, promote critical thinking, and encourage personal development through a variety of hands-on learning experiences.
The position would be from August 24, 2026 through March 30, 2027. The first five days would be on-site shadowing the current FCS teacher.
Full time LTSs shall be entitled to salary equal to seventy-five (75%) percent of the salary that is reflected on the first step of the salary schedule.

- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with state standards and curriculum requirements in family and consumer sciences.
- Teach subjects including but not limited to nutrition, culinary arts, family relationships, consumer education, and child development.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, projects, and exams, providing constructive feedback to promote growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate family and consumer science concepts into other subject areas.
- Organize and supervise hands-on activities, labs, and projects that enhance student learning and engagement.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding student performance and classroom activities.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring all materials and equipment are properly managed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
- Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or a related field.
- Will consider an emergency FCS certification of a certified teacher in a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in Family and Consumer Sciences or equivalent.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required; long-term substitute experience is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
