Position Overview
We are seeking a Lab Technician to support a large enterprise healthcare technology environment at our client in Waukesha, WI. This is a hands‑on, onsite role focused on supporting lab and data center operations, ensuring server availability for software development teams, and maintaining both new and legacy systems. The ideal candidate enjoys working with physical hardware, Linux systems, and collaborating closely with engineers and developers in a lab setting.
This role is onsite Monday through Friday (with possible limited flexibility on Fridays).
- Only W2 employment – no C2C candidates will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Work onsite daily to support lab and data center operations
- Partner with experienced lab technicians and global development teams to ensure server uptime
- Deploy and set up new HPC and server hardware according to engineering specifications
- Install and configure SLES (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server) manually and via automated tools
- Maintain and repair approximately 100 servers, including legacy systems
- Reconfigure systems to support evolving development needs
- Troubleshoot hardware, networking, and software issues
- Track inventory, parts, and lab supplies required for operations
- Maintain multiple trackers documenting system status and connectivity
- Escalate issues to leadership in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain lab areas in compliance with EHS safety and housekeeping standards
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–3 years of hands‑on experience with Linux operating systems
- Experience with SLES / SUSE Linux strongly preferred
- Background supporting server hardware in lab or data center environments
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, network, and OS‑level issues
- Familiarity with Linux shell scripting and/or Python
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Experience maintaining system documentation and operational trackers
- High energy, team‑oriented mindset with strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently in an onsite environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Candidates with Biomedical Engineering backgrounds and strong Linux/programming experience are encouraged to apply
- Experience working in regulated, enterprise, or healthcare‑adjacent environments is a plus
Work Location & Duration
- Location: Waukesha, WI (onsite)
- Schedule: Monday–Friday (possible WFH Fridays)
- Contract Duration: 6 months with potential for extension
Compensation & Benefits
Codeworks discloses that the anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $20.00 and $30.00. This range is subject to change based on job-related factors, including client requirements where applicable.
